  Why Community Tourism?

Sophisticated Travelers

Our travelers today are more sophisticated and value conscious. They seek authentic experiences in the heritage and culture of a country, including its food. They are also increasingly more responsible and concerned about the conservation and preservation of the built and natural environment.

And they want to experience first hand, and contribute to the improvement of, the lives of people in the communities in the countries that they visit.

  • Around the world, we now view community tourism as an important component of sustainable tourism development. Linking communities, both urban and rural, to tourists is nothing new; but the efforts have become more deliberate, organized and varied.

  • Ranging from a simple bed and breakfast accommodation in a rural home to creating income-generating opportunities for an entire village, we may consider community tourism in the Caribbean as the opportunity to embrace “eco-tourism, cultural tourism, adventure tourism, recreational tourism, geo-tourism, heritage tourism, health tourism, farm tourism and all the popular special interest tourism”.
