Although Barbados, the most Easterly island in the Caribbean chain, is world famous for its sand, sun and sea , it also has its culinary and cultural delights and the Atlantic-washed East Coast which lend themselves to agro tourism development and a more diversified tourism industry.

Barbados - Established an Agro Tourism Committee

At a meeting at the IICA office in Barbados in December 2009, Sharice Taylor, Tourism Development Officer at the Ministry of Tourism advised that the subject of agro tourism comes under the Community Tourism banner at the Ministry.

Barbados - Oxfam linking farmers to hotels

Dr. Cleve Scott, Project Officer from the Oxfam office in Barbados, excited us about his organization’s large scale integrated programme linking farmers to hotels. The pilot project in St. Lucia is now being replicated in Jamaica.

Barbados - AWIA expansion plans

The President of the Association of Women in Agriculture (AWIA), Mrs. Margaret Beckles, told us that her organization, which has 13 active members, has plans for expansion of its agro processing activities.
