diversification
Losing our
preferential status once granted by our European trading partners
has resulted in a decline in the value and volume of traditional
agricultural exports. Our regional situation is such that our
Caribbean governments are seeking ways to diversity the
agricultural sector to protect revenues, generate foreign exchange
and create more jobs. We have an opportunity in the tourism
sector.
Agro-trade
describes partnerships in the tourism sector for farmers,
agro-processors and artisans. (see Harvey, E). We may create
partnerships with several players within the region:
